Shared on Facebook by a friend!

Pictured is a young physician by the name of Dr. Roger Starner Jones. His short two-paragraph letter to the White House accurately puts the blame on a "Culture Crisis" instead of a "Health Care Crisis"..

It's worth a quick read:

Dear Mr. President:
During my shift in the Emergency Room last night, I had the pleasure of evaluating a patient whose smile revealed an expensive shiny gold tooth, whose body was adorned with a wide assortment of elaborate and costly tattoos, who wore a very expensive brand of tennis shoes and who chatted on a new cellular telephone equipped with a popular R&B ringtone.

While glancing over her patient chart, I happened to notice that her payer status was listed as "Medicaid"! During my examination of her, the patient informed me that she smokes more than one pack of cigarettes every day, eats only at fast-food take-outs, and somehow still has money to buy pretzels and beer. And, you and our Congress expect me to pay for this woman's health care? I contend that our nation's "health care crisis" is not the result of a shortage of quality hospitals, doctors or nurses. Rather, it is the result of a "crisis of culture" a culture in which it is perfectly acceptable to spend money on luxuries and vices while refusing to take care of one's self or, heaven forbid, purchase health insurance. It is a culture based in the irresponsible credo that "I can do whatever I want to because someone else will always take care of me". Once you fix this "culture crisis" that rewards irresponsibility and dependency, you'll be amazed at how quickly our nation's health care difficulties will disappear.

Respectfully,
ROGER STARNER JONES, MD
If you agree...pass it on.

GEEEZZZE!

It apparently takes a freakin' act of Congress to cancel the Shreveport Times. I have been trying for about two weeks now. Finally contacted customer service since they don't have any way to cancel online. They do, however, have lots of OTHER things I could have done...like pay my bill or have my paper stopped while I go on vacation. I went round and round with customer service who insists on charging me $8.15 for the first 10 days of September. I told them I wasn't going to pay it because it wasn't my fault that no one would cancel my subscription. I was told I had to snail mail a copy of my last bill and write a cancellation notice. Well, I sucked it up and did that this morning and included the $8.15. Now I'm wishing I would have sent it in pennies!!!! I just want this ordeal OVER! I also told them in my letter of cancellation that because it was so difficult to cancel that I would never re-subscribe even if it ever became a paper worth reading.

Never Forget!

Love it!

Too good not to share. I got this in an email tonight!

Another Mom episode!

My brother called me tonight and told me he found Mom passed out again. When she didn't show up for church tonight, he went to see about her. He found her in a dark house lying on her bed out of it. He woke her up and her blood sugar was 36! She had fallen asleep at some point without eating any food since lunch. I was there at lunch and watched her eat, so I know she ate at lunch. I don't know what we are going to do. I guess we are going to have to monitor everything she eats to make sure she does eat. I went on to her house to check on her and they had gotten her blood sugar back up and she was in bed. I'm just so afraid that at some point she is going to do that and NOT wake up. Thank you, God, for always alerting us in some way to go see about her!

Labor Day...literally!

My brother and I teamed up on two mowers and mowed the home place.

This was our reward! Mom made homemade peach tarts! Yum! I ate 3!

It's what's for dessert!

YES!

Wow! Such a beautiful day and my lazy ass has done very little. Here's a recap:

  • Go to McDonald's to grab a big breakfast w/hotcakes and bring it home
  • Play on the iphone off and on all day
  • Do a few scrapbook pages
  • Watch Texas beat Rice
  • Watch LSU beat UNC...well, it's not over yet!
  • Pay the lawn guy to mow my lawn while my lazy ass watches football
  • Go buy ribs from Ol' West Bar B Q for dinner
  • Do a few more scrapbook pages
  • Water the yard
  • Visit with the neighbors
  • Hit the sack!
What a waste of skin today!

Finally!

Looks like the lawyer finally has Dad's succession completed and correct. Now all we have to do is go to his office...my mom, my brother, and me...and sign the final papers and pay the bill, which, I am sure, will be substantial even though he is a family friend and promised us a reduced rate. Now that he has seen how much the estate is worth, that promise probably went out the window...of course, most of it is land, mineral rights and timber..not cash!

Wednesday, September 01, 2010

Wow!

As I was minding my own business....ok, napping yesterday, I got a call from my sister-in-law that my mother had been passed out for 2 hours on her kitchen floor from a low blood sugar. She finally woke up (God must have done it) and was able to  move around on the floor to get to the phone and pull it down to call my brother. He was not home, but my sister-in-law went to her and called 911 to get someone to come pick her up. A friend with the sheriff department was in the area and heard the call, so he was there in a moment. Mom has one of those emergency call thingys around her neck, but a low blood sugar makes her lose her mind and not be able to think like that. Anyway, I went right on to see about her and she was sitting at the table having already completed the crossword puzzle in the paper, so her mind was back.

Today has been completely wasted due to my lack of sleep last night. After trying Tylenol PM, aspirin, and melatonin, I still was unable to sleep, so this morning I got up, made the bed and lay right back down on it and went back to sleep until 11:00. That probably set me up for another no sleep night tonight!!! I hope not!

Too good!

I usually don't post videos, but I like this one!!!!!

It's over!

I reached my limit with the Shreveport Times today. Many months I have been thinking about not renewing my subscription. All I do is the crossword puzzle anyway and I can do crosswords anywhere. I am a Glenn Beck fan and a conservative....not necessarily a Republican, but a Reagan Conservative. This was the cartoon in the paper today and the final straw for me. It's not funny and I find it offensive! I'm sure this "cartoonist" wouldn't dare make fun of a muslim, but it's ok to skewer an American Patriot!

C-Ya.....Shreveport Times..My money can be spent elsewhere!

Well, DUH!

Went and bought one of those expensive pump containers of extended death to weeds Round UP....got it home and couldn't figure out how to work the damn thing, so I took it back. No wonder it wouldn't work! I got my money back and went to the garden center again. Turns out the one I bought was missing the whole part that contained the tube and wand. I now have one that works with all its parts.
     Spent all morning watching the Restoring Honor Rally at the Lincoln Memorial where my friends are today. Wow! What an experience that must have been. I cried the whole time. If the press can find anything to criticize about that, I want to see what it is. There was not one word of controversy and not one sign for them to focus on. Oh, my, what will they find to say!!!!
     Also did my patriotic duty and responsibility and went to vote for David Vitter. I preach to not vote for any incumbents, but in this case, I did!

Holy CRAP!

Dad has been gone 9 months and we are STILL trying to get the estate settled. My poor brother has worked and worked on property descriptions...faxed them all to the lawyer and the lawyer still has them all screwed up. He doesn't even have the dwelling on the proper parcel of land! We are trying to avoid having to have all of it surveyed. Mom cannot find any of the deeds, so it is a real chore. I thought we were paying a lawyer to do that kind of stuff, but my brother has done more than the lawyer! On a lighter note, the monument company brought renditions of what the monument will look like and all of the foot stones, which we are getting done in advance for all the rest of us. Should have it done soon!

Restoring Honor Rally

Months ago when Glenn Beck started planning the Restoring Honor Rally at the Lincoln Memorial, two friends started making plans to attend. I turned it down because I have been to D.C. in August and it is miserable. Looks like the
weather is going to be very pleasant. God is with them! Well, 3 friends are on Amtrak at this moment on the way to D.C. I hope they have a great time. I just do not like to be in huge crowds, plus I know my back would not have been happy with all the walking and carrying a chair at the same time. I'm too old for that kind of misery!
They drove to Meridian, MS to board Amtrak for an 11 A.M. departure yesterday. After about 22 hours, they will arrive in D.C.

Painting With a Twist!

Our krewe had a fundraiser tonight in association with the Painting With a Twist organization. What fun we had. The "twist" is that wine is served. This was my painting. Started with a white canvas! I even surprised myself!! I signed it just in case! I don't think van Gogh is in any danger of being replaced!

Check it out!

OK.. so I am kind of nerdy, but I loved my years at Louisiana Tech and my new iphone skin reflects that!

Check it out!

This is a game I play every week on Facebook! I never, ever stay as the leader, so I am savoring the moment. Been the leader since Tuesday and the tournament ends on next Tuesday! This is my highest score ever! I'm gloating right now!

Do the right thing!

Someone told me about a business that recently opened here in town that is in an old unused building. A young  man wanted to attend Glenbrook High School here in Minden, a private school. The tuition is not cheap, so his dad opened a car wash in the old building for his sons to wash cars and earn money to go this school. They washed my friend's SUV this morning for $15 and she threw in another $5 because they did an excellent job. I went to pick her up and left my car. He washed it for $10 and I threw in some extra because I like to support people who want to do for themselves!! He will wax it for $20, so next time I will let him do that.....and to top it all off....NOW..it's raining!  We need it badly and I knew it would rain if I got my car washed! BRING IT. I have a garage!!!!

Monday, August 16, 2010

Well...OK then!

My doctor's office called today to tell me my blood results from Friday. Turns out I have a vitamin D and B12 deficiency. I had to go in for a B12 shot and got a prescription for vitamin D....50,000 strength which is only taken once in a while. All other things looked good:

  • cholesterol -152 ( of course, that is with meds)
  • A1C - 6.2, which is an average of blood sugars at 131...not bad for a diabetic 8 years into the disease ( Also with meds....5 pills a day, but no insulin, yet)
  • Triglycerides down from 312 to 211...still a little high, but Krill oil apparently works at lowering that number

They are supposed to set up an appointment for me with a dermatologist, but appar
ently they haven't done that yet. My rash is much better since I have been slathering it with triamcinolone cream.....AND we got some rain last night...not enough, but who's counting?  Ok....7/10ths!

And how did I ever live without an Iphone!!!!! It is AMAZING!

'Nuff said!

Supposedly seen in Breaux Bridge,LA! Can't say I disagree...well, except that I would have used the correct form of ITS!!!!!!

Friday, August 13, 2010

Whatever!

I bought those silly looking squiggly light bulbs because the tree huggers gave all this song and dance about how they use less electricity and last 8 years. Well, I have lived in this house four years, paid a lot of money for those stupid bulbs to go in a fixture over the kitchen table. One of them already burned out!!! WTH! Another beef I have with them is that it is nearly impossible to find bulbs that all look the same...some put out a yellowish light, while others are white. Mine have to match because that's how I roll. I even put the stupid things in the bathroom over the mirror. Finally, took them all out and put incandescent bulbs back in so I could SEE! I'm through with trying to save the Earth! I have to SEE! Also, they fail to mention that there is no safe way to dispose of burned out squiggly bulbs. They have mercury in them and should not go to the landfills. Mine went in the trash! I was mad because it burned out!

Yet another doctor today!

Finally went in to see about the dermatitis that I have had for 8 months. Doc was not happy that I waited so long to see about it. Because I have already had a bout with staph infection, he told me to NEVER do that again. He is setting me up with a dermatologist. He suspects my blood pressure medicine which I have been taking for years, but an allergy can occur after so long a time. Have been twice to CVS to get the prescription he sent in and they are so backed up, I thought I was in Wal Mart!!! Maybe at some point tonight I will get the script! I need a margarita!

Dodged a bullet.....MAYBE!

I decided against having my cataracts removed right now after a multitude of tests. Doc said if there are no real problems except having to put on reading glasses, I could wait until it does become a problem....and it will! Somehow cutting on my eyeball just makes me cringe although I know millions of people have had this procedure.

Bittersweet discovery!

This was one of pictures transferred from my old phone to my new phone. It's the last picture ever taken of Dad. This was the first day I took him for chemo. This brings tears to my eyes again. I miss him!

I got it!

Even the people at the AT&T store in Bossier were shocked it was there in only 4 days. Wow! There is so much to learn. My reception at home is going to render it not very useful at home, I'm afraid. Apparently, it takes more than two bars to be able to access the internet, so I have been unsuccessful at setting up Facebook or watching any youtube or mostly anything else that requires internet. It's Ok. It will be useful everywhere else. At home I have a land line and 2 computers, so it isn't necessary for it to work so well at home. I have already forgotten how to do some of the stuff they taught me yesterday and I cannot access the user's guide because it is on the phone!!!!

Today is the day to go see the head honcho eye doctor about my cataracts. My eyesight is getting progressively worse each day, so we will see what he says today. Maybe I can download some stuff on my phone while I am there since there is 3G coverage all over that area!

Drought over????

I would never wish for a hurricane. I have seen the damage they can cause, but I am sure not above wishing for a tropical storm to get us out of this drought!!!!

Tuesday, August 10, 2010

WooHoo!

My iphone has been shipped or at least scheduled for pickup by their carrier. I only bought it Saturday! It is going to the At&T store for me to pick up there. They will transfer my contacts for me and set the phone up. Who is going to show me how to use it? I'm also going to need suggestions for the good apps!

Monday, August 09, 2010

I found it!

Look what I found today at Albertsons in Bossier City! Finally! Also, found Pepsi and Mountain Dew throwbacks. None of these will be out for long, so I am going to load up. I mostly drink diet drinks, but occasionally nothing will do but the leaded variety!!!!

Sunday, August 08, 2010

Rats!

Well, I didn't win the St. Jude Dream House once again, but that's OK...maybe next year! My money went to a great organization. Obama will probably take it away from the winner anyway!!!

I did it!

Of course, it had to be ordered and will not be here for another week or three! I'm excited and the additional data plan is not going to add much to my regular plan. I have waited a long time for this and been very patient.I even saved some money because this is a no Louisiana sales tax weekend..4%, but hey, it helps...now I am just ready to have it!

On another note, I cleared up another issue that has been hanging over my head lately. As a krewe member, I am expected to provide something for the silent auction that we have at our Coronation. I don't even go to the coronation because I just don't enjoy that kind of stuff, but this is a major fund raiser, so I am expected to do my part. I did that and had this made up and donated it today. It has lots of cool LSU stuff in it, which is always big around here. By the time I had finished, it had cost me $115!!!

And while I was making two trips to Bossier today, I saw this. At the time, the temp on my car was 101 degrees!!!

Tuesday, August 03, 2010

Well, Hell's Bells!

Today was my yearly ophthalmologist visit and now I know why I had to put reading glasses all over the house the last couple of months....CATARACTS! WTH! Looks like they may be bad enough to warrant removal. The doc I saw was not the one who does that sort of stuff, but I will see Dr. Lusk as soon as they get the computer operating enough to make an appointment. Looks like I may be able to get lenses put in that are much like what I have now...one eye fixed for close up and the other for distance. That's what I am used to since I had conductive keratotomy 4 years ago on one eye and got rid of my glasses. I hate glasses so very much!!!! I am now OFFICIALLY old!

Coffee, PLEASE!

Usually during the summer, I don't make coffee because I just feel like it is a winter drink and I am not addicted to caffeine. I enjoy it while I am on vacation and can sit around and drink it leisurely or during the winter while I do the daily crossword in the paper. In the summer, I seem to always need to be getting somewhere....usually to my mom's to work in her yard or the garden. Now the garden is finished for the most part and today I had nowhere to be, so I woke up wanting coffee. The temp is predicted to be 104 today! WTH! Why do I need coffee TODAY of all days? I don't get it, but OK...I had my coffee!

Really?

I spent the entire day re-entering data that I lost in one program on my computer. It would be so much nicer if I were a bit more computer savvy, but,alas, I am not anymore! I used to be pretty good at it, but it went off and left me after I retired and didn't need to know as much any more. Half the time was spent trying to re-name a column in a data file. I know it can be done because I have old print outs where it is done!!! I gave up. I cannot do it! Anyway, I got all the data re-entered for my high school reunion database and my personal list of data that I use for my Christmas cards. The program is an obscure one that no one else has ever heard of. At some point in the future, I will enter all the data in Excel. I found a folder where I had started doing it and even printed out how to print the labels. I even saved what I did to a disk! Hell, I used to know how to do stuff! I have the proof!

Yum!

Fresh peach cobbler!

WTH is this?

Well, it's an acupuncture mat! You never heard of this? Me either, but I bought one. Got it today, so I am not singing its praises yet...maybe never, but we'll see. Here's what it is supposed to do:

It is highly effective for:
- Pain relief on waist, back, neck, shoulder,hip;
- Promote blood circultation;
                                    - Increase Immunity power;
                                    - Body relaxation;
                                    - Decrease Muscle Tension;
                                    - Increase hormone secretion;
                                    - Increase Uptake of Oxygen;
                                    - Improve better sleep;
                                    - Promote Digestion;

Actually, I did lie  on it for a few minutes today after a shower and those little flowers kind of HURT! I will reserve my opinion until I see if any of these things actually happen!!!!

I failed!

My tech guru came over today to see if he could retrieve 2 databases that I lost when I got my new computer. They were in an obscure program that I bought because it is much easier to use than Excel or Access! He could not get them back, so I thought I would go ahead and use Excel since I did take a short course in it last year. I already had started typing the database in it, but I remembered why I stopped. Printing the address labels from the database is a royal pain in the ass and I CANNOT do it. I gave up! Now I am back to my old program, but we have it set to be a part of my online backup now. Apparently, it wasn't before!!! One of the databases I lost was all the people in my high school reunion list. The other one was my Christmas card list. I didn't send Christmas cards last year because I just couldn't get into it after losing my dad so recently. Now I have to re-enter both those databases! I don't like doing that kind of stuff!!!!!!!BOOO!

While I had my guru here, he gave me a lesson in using MY fax portion of my printer. My broker in Texas had to overnight FedEx me some papers and I had to FedEx them back after I signed them because I am an official
d
umbass! I NEVER have an occasion to fax anything, so I didn't know how to use it! I do now, but I probably won't remember when I do need it again!

On a brighter note, I have pretty much convinced myself to get an iphone!!!

Why would my dumbass need an iphone? I have no idea!!

On to Plan B!

I headed to Mom's at 8:30 this morning to mow before it got too hot. She needed the okra picked, so I did that first, but it started raining before I finished. Usually the rains, if we get any at all, don't come until the atmosphere heats up in the afternoon. I was very grateful for the rain. Since I couldn't do my outside favorite kind of work, I got busy in the kitchen. I had brought a pork loin and some sausage with green peppers in it, so I started cooking. We had scalloped new potatoes and onions, fried okra, fresh peas, cornbread and tomatoes...all from our garden except the tomatoes. We had  to count on others' generosity for those. Mom made some fried peach tarts for dessert. I must say we were eating well today....heck, we eat well every day!

Monday, July 26, 2010

Junk kind of day!

I have not had even one meal today, but I have grazed all day long!

  • shoestring potatoes
  • root beer with real sugar
  • banana
  • grapes
  • apple with peanut butter
  • grilled cheese sandwich ( I guess that's a meal right there)
  • key lime pie
  • peanut butter cookies
  • diet Big Red drink

Yep....I did manage to get in 4000 steps while eating all that food. I guess that was trips from the computer to the kitchen! GEEZE...what a waste of skin today...Actually, we had some rain today and I DID go out behind the fence with my pick axe and tried to dig a canal to let the water out of my back yard!
