I got Mom home by about 4 today. Doesn't appear that she had a heart attack. Her pulse is still in the 80's, which is too high for her very damaged heart. She only has about 60% use of her heart due to her major heart attack, so the cardiologist wants it to beat fewer times. Usually it is in the 50's. The hospital made an appointment for her in a couple of weeks to see her regular cardiologist, who is in Shreveport.
I am very tired from 2 days of hospital and ER life, so I have turned on my warming blanket and I am about to snuggle up with my Winnie the Pooh blanket and watch Survivor. The weather changed dramatically while I was at the hospital today. It was 75 when I went in and 42 when I came out with Mom. If I am a good daughter, I will make a pot of potato soup tomorrow and take it to them. We'll see how that turns out!!!
UPDATE: Well, CRAP! I fell asleep in the last 5 minutes of Survivor and don't know who got booted!!!

Home Again....

My personal whirlwind....
Mom called this morning and the Home Health nurse was at her house. Mom's pulse was way higher than usual so the nurse called her cardiologist who then instructed Mom to go to the ER for an EKG and blood tests. I went to get her and bring her back here to the ER. They are keeping her overnight in the hospital to run some more tests and keep an eye on her heart. For 2 of her heart attacks, the only symptoms she had was elevated heart rate. They don't believe she had a heart attack this time. After I got her settled in a room, I went and got Dad. He didn't come with us originally because he was coughing and has a cold, but he wanted to come see about her after they kept her in the hospital. My brother is in Branson still, but he has called several times and offered to come home, but I told him no. My mom's sister was also in the hospital on the same floor, but she went home today. She wouldn't leave until they let her go see Mom. I finally got a chance to go grab a burger and run by home at 3. My cousin took Dad back home, so I wouldn't have to do that.

Wal Mart Drama of the day...
My dad isn't doing well.....he can't breathe. He had a doctor appointment at 8:45 this morning and I waited and waited and waited for them to come by and give me a report. Finally, at 11, I went to Wal Mart and found their car in the parking lot so I went in looking for them. Dad was sitting down up front near the door, so I went looking for Mom. When I finally found her she had been walking around Wal-Mart long enough for her sugar to bottom out. She was going to walk out pushing her cart to the car without going through a check out. I had to grab a coke out of a cooler and get her to a seat to get her sugar back up. I got her checked out and sent them on home after I was sure she was OK to drive. Dad usually walks around Wal-Mart with her just in case she does have a low blood sugar, but today he couldn't walk. I guess God sent me to Wal Mart today!!! It is so sad for me to watch them go down so much. My brother left today to go to Branson for a week. He hated to leave with Dad in such bad shape, but I told him that I can handle things here.

Big work day....
Since summer has come back, I have been outside all day working in the yard. Last week my big order of bulbs came in, so I have spent the day planting bulbs....all Avalon Daffodils. I saved some to put in some pots, but I need some really pretty pots to put them in. I also cut down all my angel trumpets that froze last weekend. I am in the process of removing 9 huge pavers from a low spot in the back yard where I plan to put a birdbath next spring. The pavers were uneven, so I got paver sand to redo them with. Unfortunately, the 40 pound bag of sand isn't enough, so I didn't finish that project. I hate not finishing a project because I never know when the mood for heavy lifting might strike me again. That is HARD work!!

Praises to Lauberge du Lac hotel
I received the clothing items that I so absent mindedly left there on Monday. I highly recommend this hotel because it is beautiful and they do what they say they are going to do. These days that's a real surprise to me. I am very cynical and skeptical about businesses who say they will do something, so I am pleasantly surprised and happy!

Frosty comes alive!
My neighbors' across the street! Beautiful, tasteful decorations.....like
my house on steroids!
My lonely Frosty all by himself!
One More Time...
My belly is full of turkey, cornbread dressing, cranberry sauce, fruit salad, sweet potatoes, and my awesome mashed baked potatoes. I had to make something my gluten intolerant brother could eat and I must say they were delicious. I just reheated and ate them again. One might think that potatoes are just potatoes....not true....these red skinned potatoes and a diced onion were cooked in chicken stock. When they were done, they got mashed up with heavy cream, cream cheese, green onion tops and parsley. They were then put in the oven for 30 minutes. When that was done, I sprinkled real bacon crumbles and shredded cheddar cheese on top. By the time I got to my brother's, the cheese was melted and the potatoes were perfect. He liked them as well.
My precious mom had baked me an Italian Cream cake for my birthday and it is delicious. She knows that is my favorite kind of cake and I must say, she really came through with this one. Lately, her cooking has been not as good as usual, but not this time!!!

My lucky day!
No, I didn't win the lottery, but maybe I SHOULD buy a ticket! I found the receipt from Lowe's where I bought the Happy Holidays sign that looks crappy. I'm thinking tomorrow I will take it down and take it back!!!
TAZ personified!
I have been wild like Taz today, but I got a lot done mostly because I had to stay home and wait for a couple of phone calls. The floors have all been cleaned and vacuumed, the phone calls have been received, the outside Christmas decorations are up (although I am not happy with one of them), and the scrapbook needs only two more pages to be completed and ready to ship. My big Happy Holidays sign is on the fence, but there aren't enough lights on it to be able to read it at night. Not sure what I will do about that, but I will probably take it down....maybe try to add more lights.....maybe not! Right now it just looks tacky!!!!
Big time screw up!!!
Update: The hotel called and they have my stuff. They are shipping it to me!I am very grateful!
I left a wool blazer and a Tommy Hilfiger shirt in a hotel closet yesterday. Of the many, many hotel stays I have had, that has never happened. I left something in a hotel airport shuttle one time and had to go back to Houston the next day to get it. I have a call into the hotel security. There is someone in charge of lost and found that is supposed to call me back. I hate when I have to wait for someone to call back. It screws up my day even more!!!

My new favorite stuff!
While I was in Lake Charles, I was gifted with some bath crystals saturated with moisturizers. The gift was from a place called Bath Junkie......and, by the way,.......I am ONE! This stuff is awesome. I have used it twice now and it completely negates having to get all greased up with lotion after a bath.
I returned home today and found that my angel trumpets didn't survive the freeze last night. I had them covered, but the tarp came loose on one side and exposed them to the weather. They had so many buds on them and they were going to be pretty soon, but they're gone now. Maybe next year!! They have already bloomed several times this summer. My azaleas (twice bloomers) have buds all over them and I have them covered tonight due to predicted 29 degrees. I'm afraid that isn't going to help and they probably won't bloom. It's OK. They bloomed in the spring. Maybe next year! I love the cold weather, but I love my flowers, too! Can't have both, I guess!!

Busy day....
This morning I spent several hours mulching the leaves in my parents' yard. "Yard" here entails acres instead of just a yard! I grabbed some lunch there, then came home to wash all the dirt off and snuggle under my Winnie the Pooh soft blanket for a nap. After some rest, I was off to Shreveport for some sushi. I think I'm ready to go to bed. Tomorrow I am off to Lake Charles for an overnighter.

Big Surprise!
I went to my regular Thursday lunch with the ladies today and did they have a surprise for me!!! They had birthday cake, gifts, and free lunch! I never told any of them I had a birthday coming up, but they informed me that one of them had access to all public records and they even knew how old I was. One of them even admitted she was older than me!!! It was nice, but I was very surprised. There were 7 people there.

Flushed Away...Update
Absolute GENIUS! As with all animated movies, there is more there for adults than for children. Children will love it and adults will love it more...so many clever things and innuendos. I have great admiration for makers of animated films, the main one being that I don't have to THINK to understand their movie!!
When I came out of the movie, the winds had subsided somewhat and there was a cold drizzle...just the kind of weather to come home and read a good book!!
The Big BLOW!
We have wind advisories today and they are NOT KIDDING! I NEVER experienced wind like this in Texas unless there was a tropical storm. I was never there during a hurricane! This is serious wind with some gusts up to 43 already. It's enough to cause power failures and trees to fall. We have been warned! I walked outside on the patio and there were little birds huddled on the ground next to the house. They tried to fly away, but the wind was tossing them all over. They can't sit on the fence. Now the funny thing is that my neighbor across the street is out with his blower trying to keep the leaves off his porch and driveway. That man is way more obsessed than I am !!!
I'm thinking this will be a good day to take in a movie. I used to do that a lot in Texas, taking advantage of the cheaper tickets for the matinees. I don't even know if the tickets are cheaper here in the afternoon, but I guess I'll find out. I'm thinking I'll go see Flushed Away. It's my kind of movie and on my level of thinking!!! I"ll be back with my review!

Very lethargic day...
Last night I was awake from 1:30 until 4:30 for no apparent reason. Have no idea why...even the Tylenol P.M. didn't help. As a result, I never even got out of my comfy lounge pants and sloppy t-shirt. I did ZERO scrapbook pages, but I did bake a pie....well, me and Sara Lee. Sara Lee made it and I baked it. I had this pie a couple of years ago and was never able to find it again until this week. It is delicious so I had pie for my evening meal!!! It is Apple Nut caramel pie!

More Praise for QVC!
This company is awesome. Today I received the replacement for the package that was never delivered (although the website said it was delivered on 11/2). Not even one hour later, my doorbell rang and when I opened the door another package from QVC was there. It was the original. The one delivered earlier required a signature. This one was just left there and I didn't even see who delivered it. I assume it was UPS again. I told the guy who delivered the first one that this was a replacement for one that I never got even though UPS had it marked as delivered. Now.....here's the kicker and what makes QVC awesome and stand head and shoulders above others......when I called to see how to return one of the packages, the lady told me to just keep it. I told her it was a toy and some needy child will be getting it as soon as I figure out how to find someone who needs it.
Just a memory now!
My mom used to be known for her cooking. She was the absolute best. She called me today and told me she was cooking some collard greens (not from our garden), so I went down for lunch. She told me right away the greens weren't good. She was right. They were tough, but she tried all morning to get them tender. Even her fried chicken wasn't so good, but that is because she has to use corn starch as batter due to my brother's gluten allergy and it just doesn't do as well as flour. I'm proud of her for continuing to try to cook and I feel sorry for her that it isn't like it used to be and she knows it!!

Total SLACKER!
I got back home this morning by 10 and I have not hit a lick since then. Sleep has been the most action I could muster. A little while ago I got a burst of energy and jumped in the shower planning to go to the scrapbook store in Shreveport. That didn't happen! I don't know why I am devoid of energy. Usually, when the weather turns cool, which it did again last night, I am rejuvenated, but today.....not so much!! There's always tomorrow!!
Potpourri....
Yesterday I finally mowed the yard after waiting about a month to let the rye grass get a good start. I planted those seed using a spreader, but some places are just thicker than others. Some places it doesn't seem to be coming up at all. If it doesn't I will buy more seeds because I already gave my leftovers to my brother to put down at the pond at Dad's. I hated to mow it because it was really beautiful.
This morning I went down to Mom and Dad's around 8:30 to pick up pecans. There were some winds last night when a cold front came through, so I thought there would be a lot to pick up, but there were none. Looks like there will not be nearly as many as we had a couple of years ago. While there, Mom told me she fell in the night Thursday night about 12:30 going to the bathroom and couldn't get up. Dad didn't find her until about 3. She had managed to scoot over near enough to her bed to lean against it and pull some covers off of it to cover herself. Dad had to call my brother to come get her up. He asked her why she didn't call him earlier, but she couldn't reach the phone. I set up one of those remote doorbells a couple of years ago with the ringer in Dad's room, but she doesn't know if it still works. I'll check on that this week for her. He probably couldn't hear it anyway!!

QVC: An Excellent Company
On October 25, I placed an order on QVC. I got an email saying it had shipped on October 27, but I never got it. Today I finally got around to checking online and found that it was marked delivered by UPS on November 2 at 6:57 P.M. That is sooooooo not true! I called QVC and with NO QUESTIONS ASKED, they issued a replacement to be delivered on or about November 14th. In the past, if I was not home, they just left the package at the front door, which is perfectly safe to do here. I checked every day and it was never there. I love not having to hassle with customer service!!
My own opium field.....
I went to Mom and Dad's this afternoon to pick up pecans. There weren't many to pick up, but I mowed under the trees so they will be easier to see when they do fall. Unfortunately, the leaves were falling as fast as I could mow them. When I finished that, I fixed a nice row and planted LOTS of poppy seeds. Yes, they are the same as poppy seeds that are on poppyseed rolls, so they are very tiny. They are planted simply by tossing them out on the prepared ground.
Little Brother
My "little brother" had a birthday yesterday, so I had lunch at his house along with my parents, their pastor, and a friend of my brother's who was born on the same day.Blogger wouldn't let me post yesterday so, at my age, I forgot what I wanted to post!
Today I had lunch with the girls as we do every Thursday. Had to turn down a lunch at a lady's house that I met in Sunday School. This group of ladies that I have lunch with on a regular basis are "kindred spirits" to me. We are a lot alike! The person who built my house and sold it to me introduced me to this group. They are all friends of hers. I heard her tell them that I was a kindred spirit and I think that was an appropriate term. The Sunday School lady.....uuuhhhh...not so much!

Thank goodness....it's over!
All those political ads just drive me nuts! I voted, but I wasn't passionate about any of them. Since I am a new resident of Louisiana, I don't really know the candidates and their positions. I don't vote straight party ticket, but for the person. We had some assinine amendments to vote on, so I did study them before going to the polls. Louisiana has some weird stuff to vote on.
This afternoon I took my dad to the hearing aid man because his brand new $1600 hearing aid quit working. Turns out it was just stopped up.
Since I got home, I have made a pan of fudge to take to my brother tomorrow. It's his birthday and due to his gluten allergy, he can't have cake. I also got an ice cream cake that my sister-in-law ordered for him. Poor fellow. I feel sorry for him because gluten is in EVERYTHING!!!
I got my flu shot today and my arm has been aching ever since. That never happened before and it doesn't seem to to happening to anyone else!!!!

Dreary day...
It has been so dark and rainy and dreary all day that I have just been unmotivated to do anything constructive. I have slept, watched TV, and done a few scrapbook pages. It's perfect scrapbooking weather, but my creative juices just aren't flowing. I have 11 pages (that's actually 22 front and back) left to do and not much time.
