What a week!

After moving to rehab, Mom went into complete meltdown and did nothing, but cry. Finally, after taking all I could take with her crying, I went to the nurse and asked her to start taking the necessary steps to get mom discharged the next morning. She did and we took her home yesterday. Now she is happy. Caregivers are back and we have a break again. The caregiver said she was not as weak as we thought. She was just "playing us" and it worked. She cried so much that we thought she had had another slight stroke that affected the emotion part of the brain. She didn't cry once yesterday, so perhaps not.

I enjoyed my one night away in a beautiful resort in Lake Charles and getting to see my adopted family! Had not seen the kids in over two years. The kids enjoyed the lazy river and we enjoyed the beautiful setting. After going out to dinner, I came back to the hotel, stepped in the casino and put in $20 and took out $58...went to my room!

Sometimes all you can do is keep them happy. And actually that takes the pressure off of both of you and you enjoy what is left of your time together.
It was totally different the day I asked dad if he was tired of trying . He said yes and from that day forward we spent our time enjoying the time together. I read the paper and read stories that he said interested him. We played some word games and spent a bunch of time outside discussing(since he didn't talk , discussing consisted of me asking him yes and no questions about what we were talking about).
He had a very good sense of humor and we cut up a lot and laughed, which he could do and grinned like a ninny at how silly I was being at the time.
It worked out fine and we were happy campers after that..got into a semi routine of maintenance caretaking. I was a little less tired not worrying all the time if we should be doing what when and how.
It was a load off of both of us.
I hope you can enjoy this time together.
Sounds like she is super happy at home and so was dad....the least we could do for him, I think.
Hugs to you both and your brother too. This may be the hardest thing you have ever done. Love is like that sometimes.
Take care of you.

Thanks, Beth. It was absolutely the right decision to take her home. I just could not stand to see her cry.
