Don't be jealous!

And I even forgot to put peas on the plate....fresh peas, okra, corn and the essential hot, buttered cornbread!

There is nothing in this world better than a good old meal of home grown veggies and cornbread. Made my mouth water looking at the picture. With peach cobbler to top it off, I wouldn't be able to move!!!!

Put up another 39 pints of corn today.

Linda, you are putting me to shame on the vegetables for winter. That's not something I know how to do because I just never had to. Mom always did it and there was plenty for all of us. We have her shelling peas now!

I will be honest with you, it was always done for me also. We freeze everything, canning I have never done, so basically all I do is blanching (not sure about the spelling) and freezing. I do tend to cook mine past the blanching stage before I freeze them so it is quicker when you are ready to fix the meal. Between Mom, my daughter and myself there are 6 freezers we could fill so I have plenty freezing room. About all I put up are peas, colored and green butterbeans, a mixture of okra, onion and tomatoes (that is great over rice and very easy) and corn. I put up so much corn this year because we have a farm not far from here that raises the best sweet corn I have ever tasted. $15.00 bucks for 48 ears. We also have a farm locally that you can buy all the peas and butterbeans already shelled. I can't seem to find anyone that sells crowder purple hull peas like my Dad raises. He always saved his seed from year to year.

You must tell me how you cook your okra, it looks firm, I want mine to be like that, I must cook it too long or too fast because it seems to kinda burst and run.

So you see, I am the lazy one of us. You do all the hard work in the garden and I just cook and put up!

All I do is boil the okra a few minutes until tender...pour the water off and add butter, salt and pepper! It's always a crapshoot to get it exactly right.

Thank you so much. I will try it.

Sandy,

Check out this blog, she has a recipe you might be interested in. I'm thinking about trying it.
