Total Traumatization

No ONE on this Earth is more afraid of snakes than I am, but as I walked out into my garage a little while ago this is what greeted me. Thank goodness the broom was not in its place, but was standing against the wall right there. I managed to get him under the broom head and stand on the broom and jump up and down. That did not faze that sucker. Then I managed to keep him under the broom even though he was crawling up into the broom straw until I could move with him across the garage where a hoe was hanging on the wall. That's when I finally slaughtered him. I haven't done the research to see what kind it is, but I can assure you that is next on my list. My brother spent our childhood and adulthood scaring me with snakes. He just told me recently that he was sort of afraid to do it any more because at my age, I might have a heart attack!! This snake is light gray with dark gray markings on it. It is about 12 inches long, which might just as well be 12 feet to me!! What is the deal with me and all my varmits??? Those frogs are starting to look good to me!! I prefer frogs to snakes! Geez....what a choice! And I am not even near any woods. I have a wide open field behind me, a house on one side, and a cleared site for another house on the other side of me.

I can understand your fear of snakes; I am terrified of them, and recently killed two baby snakes myself. One was a 10" garter snake, I found it under my garbage can when I was rolling the garbage can out to the street for pick-up. A week later I killed another baby (this was kind of pinky-beige with light brown markings) that was on my drive. Your snake sounds like it might have been a king snake. Apparently this is the time of year babies are born, hatched, or whatever! I believe the only good snake is a DEAD snake. I enjoy reading your blog, discovered it several weeks ago, and have been reading it ever since.

Thanks, Paulette. I am going to look up a king snake and see if this might be what it is. So far I haven't found a picture just like it. I was hoping to get my brother to look at it and tell me. He would know. He got bitten by a snake a few months ago, but it because he was playing with it and grabbing it by its tail! I can't even imagine that!! I don't even like rubber snakes!

You really don't want to kill King snakes - as they eat other snakes, frogs, mice, rats, etc......BUT I never get close enough to them to know what they look like. Think Dad killed a black on in Kerrville about a month or 2 ago. Keith killed a momma & baby snake a few weeks ago in our yard. ICK!! I ran over an 6-8ft rattlesnake that was crossing the highway one day. (it was as wide as almost one lane of highway) The only good snake IS a DEAD one! :)

I don't care what kind it is. I just can't spare the life of a snake!!
