It's the DEVIL again!

Wal Mart garden center just pisses me off! I bought $40 worth of stuff there today, most of it very heavy. I asked for someone to come put it in my car for me. They called for someone to come, but no one ever did. I finally gave up and drove my car right up in the middle of all that stuff, loaded it all myself and helped myself to an extra bag of Miracle Gro potting soil! Damn it...it's their own fault for not hiring staff to help us old codgers! Devil

It's 12:45 and my day is DONE! I went to Dad's and got him and his truck to go get sand for my second rose bed. We put the sand in the bottom, then I took him home and went to Wal Mart to get potting soil and roses to go in the bed. I am finished with all the planting and I didn't quite have enough mulch to cover the bed, but I'll finish it tomorrow. I planted 20 gladiolus, 4 roses (Peace, Pink Peace, Olympiad, Royal Highness), and 20 caladiums in that bed. It is planted exactly the same as the other bed on the other fence. If it all comes up and blooms like I have it pictured in my mind, it will be awesome.

Jam-packed day!

When I move any muscle, I make those old lady sounds! It's because I spent all day working in the garden getting it ready to plant and planting a few early things. My brother and I have now planted potatoes, onions, carrots, beets, and cabbage. Planting is the hard part. It involves either bending over all the time or sitting on the ground, or hands and knees. Hard work, but so worth it at harvest time.

Tonight I went to yet another dinner party, except this one was at a restaurant. I have been so busy today (and had a couple of beers) that I am exhausted. It is a good exhaustion though. I like days when I accomplish a lot. I have not even read my paper and done my crossword puzzle today! I'm not sure I will get that done before I hit the sack.

The devil made me do it!

I skipped church today. I don't even know why because I wasn't sick. The people in my church, for the most part, dress really nicely on Sunday and I just plain did not feel like getting dressed up. I'm tired of my clothes. Devil

I did go to my brother's for lunch and then I took my mom to see her sister who is just home from the hospital after getting a shunt. Then I took a short run to Shreveport to Target with a slight detour by Krispy Kreme! There's that devil at work again!! Devil

I joined!

The Mardi Gras Krewe des Ambassedeurs has asked me several times to join their Krewe. Tonight at a dinner party attended by mostly Krewe members, I went ahead and took the plunge. They are a fun group of people and I think I will enjoy all the festivities. If I don't enjoy it, then next year I won't pay the dues.

WHOA!

Whazzup with this? I moved out of hurricane land and landed in tornado land! We are under a tornado watch and I quote, "This is a particularly dangerous situation." Highest wind gust so far is 32 MPH. That doesn't sound like much if it were a car, but, crap, it will blow everything away that is not nailed down. This is a "stay at home and read a book kind of day"! Unfortunately, I don't have a book to read right now and I am not going to buy one!!

My sentiments exactly.....

Updated to add: Oops, she updated her blog...scroll down to Friday, Feb. 23rd...those are my sentiments!

except this blogger is much better at expressing her opinion than I am. She is hilarious!!! I wish I had said this! ROTFL

Whew... AGAIN!

It's been another whirlwind day. The matching rose bed is built..sort of. The edgers are up and that's the hardest part. Those suckers are heavy. I sprayed the inside of the bed with Round-Up to kill the grass. I think I am going to skip the sand part this time. Going to the oil field and shoveling that sand into the truck is too taxing on my weak muscles. My muscles went on a long vacation and they haven't come back yet. I went to Mom and Dad's for a few minutes because tomorrow is supposed to be bad weather and I will probably want to just stay home until I go to a dinner party tomorrow night. I came back home and mowed the front yard....again much too taxing on me. After showering and taking a short rest, I picked up meds for Mom at Wally World, then slipped off by myself to the buffet at Harrah's. On Friday night they have crab legs. It costs and arm and a leg, but YUM-MO!

Let the record show....

that on this day, 2/22/2007, I had to turn on the freakin' air conditioner!!! I'm not ready for that. Shouldn't there be a down time between turning off the heat and turning on the AC? I would like to just open the windows for a few days, but NO, Mother Nature has spoken.Exactly one week ago we had snow flurries!!
Boiling Hot

I went to regular Thursday lunch with the ladies, then went to Lowe's. I just love that store! I am now on a mission to make another rose bed equal to the one I already made on the other fence and connect them with a small squared paver area in the corner. My plans are to put a bird bath on the pavers between the two beds. Usually, my plans in my mind look a whole lot better than the completed project. Pictures to follow...later.....much later!!!

Look how freakin' organized I am! Notice the pictures of the roses stapled on the fence behind the corresponding plant! There may be a little OCD showing up here! Ya think!!!!!

Whew!

I took full advantage of a warm day and accomplished a lot. First on the agenda was my mom's birthday. She turned 82 today, so we had fish at my brother's for lunch. After lunch my brother and I pruned the plum trees and planted 25 pounds of red seed potatoes....that's four long rows for all you city slickers. When we finished I helped Mom change the sheets on their beds since her maid quit a couple of weeks ago. Mom really needs help badly, but we can't find anyone to do it. After I finished there, I came home and have planted about 40 of the 90 gladiolus bulbs I bought. Right now, I am baking cookies so I can take some warm cookies down to my aunt who is in the assisted living facility right close to me. I knew I was tired!

Britney Spears et al...

All I can say is I'm glad no one with a camera was following me around in my 20's. Of course, I didn't have 2 babies at home either!!

Full day....

I got the rest of my roses planted today, then my brother came for a few minutes between going to funerals (he had two today). He told me my aunt was in the hospital getting a shunt put in to
release fluid pressure on the brain. Mom had not even told me! I went to Shreveport to the hospital to see about her. My mom didn't even know she hadn't told me about my aunt (her sister).

The "bill pay" portion of my online banking was supposed to be up and running today. Mine is NOT. I guess I'll be back on the phone with them tomorrow before the authorities come get me for unpaid bills!!!

I feel lighter!

That $600 I had in my pocket before I had to give it up to the dentist was just weighing me down. The wind is blowing so hard today that I could just blow away so I am staying inside. I actually did manage to get one rose planted, but I'm not kidding about the wind. It is brutal. Thank goodness it is not cold. It's a spring like day, but not one for working in the yard. My seeds that I planted in the planter Dad bought are coming up. I only planted them Thursday! The ones that are getting the most benefit from the heating pad are the ones that came up, so now I have moved the planter so some others get the benefit now. I'm anxious to get the garden started and work in the yard.

It's official...

I'm a glutton. Strawberries seem to be sweeter and of higher quality this season, so, of course, I just ate one whole container of strawberries dipped in white chocolate and chocolate! I don't even feel full and I ate every last one of them!! Yep, I'm gluttonous! I would have shared, but there was not a soul here with whom to share them!:)

Back to Texas

I got to go back to my beloved Texas today to Jefferson, Texas, where I attended another Mardi Gras parade. My cousin's wife called and asked me to go with her to meet her daughter over there. She has asked me to go to several places since I have lived here and I have never been able to go, so this time I just went. I didn't really want to, but I did. It was OK, but it's not something I will put on my to do list next year. I am chilled to the bone, but after that big gas bill, I'm afraid to turn on the fireplace!! I guess I'll suck it up and turn it on to warm up my feet!!

Grrrrrr!

I Have spent a good part of this day on the phone with the internet banking people. My bank changed to a completely new system, which I could not log on to and when I finally got that taken care of, I tried to pay bills. All my payees are GONE! The whole thing has to be re-entered and the program won't let me do it!!! I don't think I know how to pay bills without just pushing a few buttons on the computer. This has to be ironed out soon!!

I got a Centerpoint (gas for the house) bill of $287......WTF! That's unreal! I immediately turned off the gas fireplace!! In the long run, I will benefit from high natural gas prices because my mom and dad have part ownership in 15 wells, but right now that is a steep price. I have NO ownership in those wells although my parents are very generous. I just needed a WARNING that the bill would increase so much. Last month it was $90, so I have just been really enjoying the gas flowing through the remote contolled fireplace. Several nights I left it on all night.....NO MORE!

Starting the garden!

Tonight is supposed to be 19 degrees, the coldest night of the year so far. Earlier this week, Dad bought one of those seed starter domes and gave it to me along with some watermelon seeds for me to plant in it and get us some plants started. I did that today and planted some cucumber seeds as well just because I love cucumbers and want to have them as early as possible. I put the dome on and put it in the garage, but realizing how cold it is going to be tonight (even in an enclosed garage) I put a heating pad under a towel and set the planter on it. The seeds won't germinate unless they are warm. I hope I don't fry them!!!

Well, I at least got them bought. It's too freakin' cold to plant them. I froze just looking at them in the Garden Center.

WooHoo!

Dentist Finding a dentist was the last thing on my list to do, but today I went to a new dentist and I think I'll keep him. I had my dentist in Texas for 30 years, so it's hard to change. The new doc did all the preliminary inspections and x-rays and said I have none of the age related maladies that are usually occurring by now...no gum disease and the bones of a teenager!! I have had a broken tooth for over a year, but it will get crowned on Monday to the tune of $600. A distant cousin is his hygienist and she did a good job of cleaning my teeth. I guess there just never comes a time that there isn't something or someone demanding my money!!! It's always something!!

Happy Valentine's Day!

The Earth moved!

Under my house, that is! I have a hairline break in the tile across my dining area. No one can see it but me. My brother came last night to look at it and we found the crack in the concrete in the garage that just comes right through the dining room. I thought that since the ground is hard red clay, the house would be stable. My brother said that is the worst kind for foundations because the clay shrinks and swells with moisture. We have had enough rain to get us out of a drought, so the clay has filled with water and cracked my foundation. It may not get any worse. I will just watch it and see what happens. I am so proud of my house that I notice every little imperfection. This one, however, could turn into a major imperfection!!!

No Roses Yet!

I had to go help Mom and Dad get their groceries at Wal Mart today, so my day didn't go as I had planned. I did look at some rose plants at Wal Mart, but didn't buy any yet. When I finally did get a chance to work in the yard, it started raining. My priorities lie with my parents, so whatever their needs are comes first. There's plenty of time to plant roses.

Mission completed....

Well, except the part about buying and planting the roses. The perfect bed awaits them complete with sand for drainage, cow manure mixed with the sand for fertilizer, and very expensive Miracle Gro potting soil. Those flowers better GROW and BLOOM! I have a gift certificate to a nursery that I have kept since my birthday, so I will go there and spend it on roses Monday.
